Gallium: the metal that melts in your hand

Gallium is a soft metal (Ga, atomic number 31) that melts just above a cool room, near 29.8 degrees Celsius in NIST tables. Once liquid, it stays liquid over an unusually wide span before boiling around roughly 2200 to 2400 degrees Celsius depending on the reference. PubChem, national lab summaries, RSC, and USGS help connect that chemistry to metrology, gallium compounds in electronics, gallium-based alloys, and hands-on demos when safety rules are respected.
